Hey guys,
It's been stagnant for a while around the OMN LIVE campfire. I think we've all had our noses to the grind of summer chaos. During the summer months it always seems like people are headed back and forth on vacations, and running to and fro. Our attendance numbers at church are usually well below normal and because of all that's going on our men's sportsman group usually doesn't meet regularly till after the kids get back in school. Just wanted to know what kinds of things you guys out there doing outdoor ministry do to keep the guys somewhat connected during summer months?
For the past two summers, we have organized a mission trip for the fellas. Last year we went to Montana and we just got back from Alaska for this summer's trip.
What kinds ideas do you guys have for keeping "in touch" with your group of men during the summer?

Its hard to keep in touch with the sportsman in your group and in your community during the Summer. What I did this year was plan a huge fishing trip in June. We had finished our bible studies a few months earlier and the month before had a large full scale video tape turkey hunt for 8 wounded warriors which really kept our momentum into Summer. Knowing our bible study would not start up again until October I did not want to lose the connection within our group. So what we did was rent a head boat and invited all the men their families and friends and went fishing in Chesapeake bay. The boat was full with 48 people! It was a great "get together" event for the whole family. We had the boat reserved for our Outdoor Ministry team and guest only. It was a great way to get to know their families and fellowship. We tried to organize a weekend campout for the men and their sons, but unfortunately it didn't pand out. But the fishing excursion was cool.
The thing to remember is a simple phone call or a lunch with a few of the guys goes a long way. Just keep in touch every so often to reassure them you care and are thinking of them. Then when hunting season kicks in and the bible studies begin, everyone is excited to get out of the house and hang out again.
